Keynote Speaker

Matt Riviere

Matt Riviere has been a resident of Monument, CO, since moving there in 2004 from Southern California. In July 2021, he lost his two sons, Andrew, 21, and Stephen, 19, to fentanyl poisoning when they were experimenting with what they thought was OxyContin. Since his boys’ deaths, he has worked with Blue Rising and other affected families who have lost their loved ones to fentanyl. Sharing their powerful and heartbreaking stories before the Colorado House and Senate, these families left an impact that helped lead to the passage of the Fentanyl Accountability and Prevention Bill (HB 22-1326), signed into law in May 2022. To spread awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and to help save lives, Matt speaks to high school and middle school students in Colorado Springs and throughout greater Colorado. His boys’ story was featured in an ABC News documentary, Poisoned: America’s Fentanyl Crisis, and recently in the Colorado documentary, Devastated: Colorado’s Fentanyl Disaster. He partners with other affected families, raising awareness about the harms of social media and advocating for legislation, such as the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), by working with legislators at the state and federal levels.

Matt is a member of the Region 16 Opioid Abatement Council, which serves the El Paso and Teller County area. In 2024, he graduated with his MBA from the Jack Welch Management Institute, earning a 4.0 GPA and being named a Jack Welch Scholar. Matt is a full-time IT Director and enjoys playing sports, including water polo, soccer, and volleyball. He is actively involved in his church and serves as a leader of the Singles Ministry.
